Challenge: Manual Measurements and Fragmented Tools Slowing Projects

Dave Gregory of DG Energy Consulting relied on a multi-step process to collect measurements
and complete heat load calculations. For each project, he would:

1. Use a LiDAR measuring app to capture home measurements
2. Enter measurements into construction collaboration software to confirm accuracy
3. Re-enter the data into the spreadsheet based certified F280 calculation software.

The biggest bottleneck was the technical calculator and the spreadsheet-based workflow, as
even one incorrect entry could skew the entire calculation.

“Between the in-home measurements and office work, a typical project would take me from an
hour and a half to two hours to complete,” said Dave. “And with multiple programs being used
per job, there were many opportunities for issues to arise.”

Recognizing that he was wasting significant time on projects, he knew he wanted a new
solution. “I was on the lookout for a different measurement tool that could measure windows and
wall heights for heat load calculations, which would help me save time.” That’s what led Dave to
Stride.

Why DG Energy Consulting Selected Stride

In addition to recognizing that it would save them time, there were several other factors that
made DG Energy Consulting adopt Stride as their heat load calculation tool.

1. Advanced Measurement Abilities

The existing software that Dave was using could measure surfaces, but lacked the ability
to measure walls and windows. Stride enabled complete home measurements, including
all home features, using LiDAR. “Stride made it possible to do all measurements using
LiDAR. Without any manual measurements, I was able to save significant time on-site.”

2. 3D Modelling

Stride automatically generates 3D models for each home, making it easy to review and
refine measurements and details.
“Before Stride, transferring data and measurements required data entry across multiple
tools. Now, Stride streamlines the workflow and reduces overhead.”

3. Ease of Adoption:

The Stride app is straightforward to use with a user manual that makes it simple to
onboard. “I felt comfortable using Stride in the field right away. The manuals explain
everything and it fits seamlessly into my existing workflows.”

Results: A 50% Reduction in Project Time

With Stride’s easy onboarding process, Dave was able to start using the app in the field right
away. “Stride fit right into my existing workflow, as I was already using a LiDAR app for
measurements,” said Dave.

The biggest benefit to using Stride that Dave saw was the time saved. “Start to finish, projects
now take me about one hour to complete — about a 50% reduction in time spent per project. It
saves me a lot of time.”

It also makes heat load calculations simple. “With Stride, all measurements and data that are
needed for heat load calculations are taken in the app, which means that I don’t have to
leverage multiple platforms and worry about any errors in data transfer. It’s specifically built for
our needs, which makes calculations simple, fast, and easy to complete.”
